Ivan Basso was born in Cassano Magnago (Italy) on 26/11/1977. His passion for cycling started to flourish at a very young age. At the age of seven, he became part of the cycling world and soon started to obtain his first encouraging results. Ivan became Italian cycling’s great hope when he became vice world champion in the juniors category. These results continued when he switched to the amateur category: Ivan, in fact, won the World Champion’s jersey in the Under 23 category. In 2000, he became a professional at the Giro d'Italia and the following years see him confirmed as a fine athlete. Ivan puts the great experience he acquired to fruition and shows he can keep up with the very best. His first major international result comes in 2004 when he comes third at the Tour de France. The following year, he manages to better that, coming second in the Tour de France. But it is 2005 which sees his definitive rise to the top level of cycling when he wins the Giro d'Italia. In 2009, he comes fourth in the Spanish ‘Vuelta’. And his trophy cabinet becomes even fuller when he wins the Giro d'Italia for a second time in 2010 wearing the jersey of the Liquigas-Doimo team. Ivan Basso is confirmation of how strength of will and hard work can reward effort and dedication.
